Winter Workout… When temperatures drop, we all attempt to stay at home to avoid the cold weather.
As a result, we do less exercise and most likely gain weight. Keeping your weekly regular exercise routine will keep you strong and healthy.
Here are some tips that will keep you motivated:
- Stay warm – Layering with non-synthetic materials, will allow warm air from your body to act as an insulator. The sweat will not cause discomfort. Layering your self with: toque, mittens, and fleece pullover a thin long sleeve top, light jacket, thin long johns under tights or loose pants.
- Stretch indoors – warm your muscles indoors, before getting out to the cold. Just 3-5 minutes of moderate stretches indoors will make a huge difference. You could start by walking on a treadmill, jump in place, jump rope, or just doing a few sets of stairs.
Days are shortening. After work hours, it is dark and cold, which will reduce your motivation to get out and exercise. Try to exercise during lunchtime, temperatures are usually higher compared to night time. Even 20-30 minutes is better than no exercise, doing so, will affect your health and mood.
If it’s snowing or raining outside, stay safe. Try to avoid falls, slow down or just choose to work out indoors. Better to be safe than sorry.
