what is a leaky gut syndrome?

A person can have various gastrointestinal problems that might lead to think about having some real issues that are hard to find the cause.

However, modern medicine has stepped forward, and there is numerous information available about leaky gut and how to treat it.

WHAT EXACTLY IS LEAKY GUT SYNDROME?

It is a term that also stands for leaky gut. To easier to understand how leaky gut, it worth looking more closely to what gut is and what it consists. The gut is “permeable to very small molecules to absorb these vital nutrients.”[1] It is one of the basic functions. However, it can also start working out of the place as for sensitive people where it releases out zonulin. This protein can break junctions in the intestinal lining. The junctions there are tight, but that doesn’t mean that they are unbreakable – they can malfunction.

There are numerous factors for that:

  • Toxins
  • Stress
  • Age
  • Infections

Guts become “leaky” in the sense that bacteria, parasites, fat, and other toxins pass through the bloodstream through “a damaged, hyperpermeable, porous, or leaky gut.”

When guts have become leaky, there are toxins, microbes, and even undigested food particles and some other parts that can escape from the intestines into the bloodstream. Of course, the immune system attacks the invaders, but it alone cannot solve all the problems raised. The immune system starts creating antibodies against its tissues. This overstimulation leads to chronic inflammation and disease.

A lot of people suffer from chronic pain, but few of them would think that the reason for that could be leaking gut syndrome. In many cases, their painkillers and even prescribed antibiotics are used. But this just creates even stronger “ “superbugs,” antibiotic-resistant pathogens populating the gastrointestinal tracts.” That is only one of the reasons why it is important to diagnose and treat leaky gut syndrome responsibility.

The solution can be traced down even before the invention of penicillin in 1928 and before aspirin in 1897. The solution is much simpler than it might seem as it is made thanks to nature, and it has been around since the beginning of mammalian life and has been the first food of life for humans. To strengthen the immune system, one of the ways is to consume bovine colostrum (cow’s milk). It is a biologic nutraceutical.

Interestingly, also, a newborn has a leaky gut. Mother transfers antibodies against every pathogen she has encountered in her life to the newborn. It is up to 2 days after the birth, and further, the immune system is upgraded with breastfeeding. It also involves colostrum with epithelial and epidermal growth factors. This leads to further understanding of colostrum can heal leaky gut for an infant and also for older people. Douglas A. Wyatt has further tried to support this hypothesis using pigs. He proved that colostrum prevented glut leaking damage caused by excess stomach acids but also healed existing damage.

This leads to further understanding of colostrum can heal leaky gut for an infant and also for older people. Douglas A. Wyatt has further tried to support this hypothesis using pigs. He proved that colostrum prevented glut leaking damage caused by excess stomach acids but also healed existing damage.[3]Pigs also had around a 20% increase in the small intestine area leading to a connection to the improvement of the nutritional absorption of nutrition. Also, there was no need for farmers to use antibiotics as the pigs grew faster and healthier with bigger lean mass and less fat. Further research leads to introducing consortium into the research of people. It was done together with Dr Raymond Playford at the Imperial College School of Medicine in London and his team.

They conclude that “taking colostrum reduced the acute NSAID-induced increase in small intestinal permeability.” Further research leads to the use of proline-rich polypeptides (PRPs) (derived from bovine colostrum) to treat HIV-associated diarrhea caused by opportunistic infections. To these infections, antibiotics did not affect. PRPs regulate the cytokine response that can cause inflammation in the body.

PAIN MEDICATIONS AND ANTIBIOTICS

It is known that different pain medications tend to cause bleeding and even holes in the stomach and the intestinal lining. There are risks of taking NSAIDs – according to statistics; there is one lethal outcome in 1200 cases.[7] Pain is the most common leaky gut symptom, and thus, there is relief needed. Most of the physicians prescribe steroids. However, painkillers can be prescribed to treat the pain itself that can come from various other reasons. Not all doctors admit that pain medication can lead to leaky gut syndrome. The Even harsher impact is from antibiotics as they can create more problems due to their destructive nature to kill not only the bad bacteria but also a good one. There are also drug-resistant bacteria that can “colonize and exacerbate leaky gut syndrome.”[8]

There are also other triggers that can lead to health problems as mentioned earlier problems as well as others. Some of them are birth control pills, GMOs, foods full of pesticides, yeast, molds, excessive use of refined sugars, alcohol, caffeine, surgery, and others. Damage consequences might also take years to show up. The major ones are autoimmune diseases that include “allergies, alopecia areata, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s disease, depression, diabetes, fibromyalgia, food allergies and sensitivities, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, polymyalgia rheumatic, Raynaud’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, Sjögren’s syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and vasculitis.” Destruction and toxins create inflammation that becomes chronic. The type of autoimmune disease depends on the place where is the location of the inflammation.

A leaky gut is a serious health problem that needs appropriate medical treatment. Antibiotics and painkillers, in this case, are enemies. Further researches in medical treatment and causes of leaky gut are necessary.
