There is a connection between weight loss and whatever is happening in the gut.
Did you know that there are millions of microbes that can enter your body and cause pain and more severe complications? Diet has proved to be helpful to deal with different diseases and providing healthy stomach bugs. It isn’t an easy path, but over time, even the most severe cases can be treated or at least postponed to having some serious health problems.
One of the gastrointestinal disorder is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It has been a frequent reason why people choose not to go to school or work. Up to 40% of visits to gastroenterologists are due to IBS. The symptoms of IBS involve abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Clients are most likely also to suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease.
According to gynecologists, a lot of women who complain about some abdominal pain have IBS symptoms. In their case, many get diagnosed with endometriosis and also hysterectomy (removal of uterus rate, is high among them. The physicians at the SIBO Center for Digestive Health has found a “correlation between endometriosis-induced abdominal adhesions and small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)”.1 SIBO in most common cases also causes IBS.
You can look at Rome diagnostic criteria developed for IBS.
They indicate that usually it is 12 months of abdominal pain or discomfort and has at least 2 out of 3 features:
– Relieved with defecation
– Onset with a change in stool frequency
– Onset with a change in the appearance of stool
Regarding the stool frequency, it can raise further research need if it is more than three bowel movements per day but less than 3 per week. The abnormal stool form is lumpy, hard or loose and watery. The abnormality is also in the stool passage if it is urgent, straining or gives a feeling of incompleteness. In addition, for diagnosis can also be used blood tests. There are also other diagnostic tests if there are symptoms like fever, rectal bleeding, and unexplained weight loss, history of colon cancer in a family, inflammatory bowel or celiac disease.
It has been proven that also menopause and pregnancy can lead to gut problems. During pregnancy, there can be additional gastrointestinal symptoms and decrease of intestinal transit decrease because of high levels of estrogen and progesterone. In the case of menopause, women who aren’t having any hormone replacement therapy might be having these health issues. IBS can be a spot even from irregular menstruation circle. Some cases also prove that IBS tend to appear also to women who previously had some abuse as one of the causes can be psychological stress. These women often also complain about pelvic pain, genitourinary complaints, headaches, and shortness of breath.
As treatment of IBS in many cases starts with the higher use of water and laxatives. Further treatment solutions include hyoscine, cimetropium, pinaverium, and antidepressants such as “low-dose tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.”
Rifaximin is prescribed for abdominal bloating. New knowledge about how to clean the body from toxins and other things is useful. This might help to improve digestive psychophysiology. In addition, it is possible to use cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on thoughts and actions.
If the gut is healthy, it can be an excellent trigger to lose weight without problems. It can prevent obesity and diabetes, which also comes with at least some weight gain. In these cases, it is not that easy to lose weight even with the best diet and medicine as it becomes part of a more serious issue.
One of the studies found in the Science magazine that mice without protein receptor 5 in their gut gained excessive weight and even developed diabetes and fatty liver disease after being fed with a high-fat diet. It proved that without this protein, it wasn’t possible to control the bad bacteria. It also caused inflammation in the mouse. Scientists used antibiotics that killed most of the bacteria in the gut and thus reduced metabolic changes. Later on, scientists even took the gut flora from these mice to another, skinny and healthy ones. Over time, they developed similar abnormalities. This proved that the gut flora allowed to transfer obesity and diabetes in healthy bodies. By merely changing their gut flora, it was possible also to achieve more positive results.

Weight loss and gut come hand in hand. It is more common in pregnant women or the ones who are experiencing menopause, but they aren’t the only ones. Daily, everyone is exposed to hundreds of microbes, and if it isn’t strong enough and doesn’t get any supplementation, it might start failing. If there are some signs of pain in an abdominal area that doesn’t go away, it is worth consulting specialists who will set up different tests and treatment. Also, stress plays a significant role in further problems; thus, any person should think about how to eliminate it and also not stress too much about overweight or some other issues.
