WE ALL HAVE TOXINS! WHY? AND HOW BAD IT IS

Is It For Losing Weight and Health?

Every day we are exposed to toxic substances in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat. Our bodies even make substances that, if allowed to build up, can be toxic. Environmental toxins include food additives, chemical solvents from industrial waste, pesticides and herbicides, drugs, and alcohol. These toxins do not only come from large industrial chemical factories; many of these are cleaners, pesticides, and herbicides that we use in and around our home.

We also produce toxins internally from bacteria and yeasts that inhabit our gastrointestinal tract, as well as from used hormones and the byproducts of specific normal body processes. Our liver is responsible for pulling these many and various toxins out of circulation, rendering them harmless. Our kidneys, intestines, lungs, and skin are then responsible for removing the neutralized toxins from our bodies.

But what happens when our organs aren’t processing and eliminating toxins adequately? Or when the toxins begin to build up due to chronic low-level exposure?

Toxic overload and the inability to effectively eliminate toxic substances cause many common health complaints such as fatigue, headaches, muscle and joint pain, breathing troubles, digestive complaints, weight gain, mood and attention challenges, and more. The long-term toxicity is also associated with more severe health conditions, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, certain types of cancers, and many autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and chronic fatigue syndrome.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

While many toxins are hard to avoid (such as ambient air pollution or toxins you may get exposed to in your workplace), it is possible to reduce your overall toxic load. External toxin sources include petroleum products and mineral oils, heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides, plastics, formaldehyde, artificial fragrances, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, sweeteners and other synthetic food additives, and many other chemicals.

A wide variety of these is in common processed foods, household cleaners, garden care products, and body care products

• Consider switching your detergents, soaps, and another home, garden, and body care products to unscented and biodegradable products. If the product is safe for the waterways, it will be safer for your body.

• Use caution, and appropriate safety protocols with harsh chemicals like cleaners or paint (i.e., avoiding contact with the skin; opening windows) – most products containing toxic chemicals will have warnings written on their packaging.

• Plastics can make their way into our foods as well – avoid heating foods in the microwave in a Tupperware or wrapped in plastic. Also, avoid using plastic utensils or plastic plates or bowls with hot or oily foods as the oil degrades plastic.

• Keep an eye on in what your food is packaged: aluminum and other metals found in can make their way into canned foods.

• Be mindful of the quality of your food: stay away from food toxins such as artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and hydrogenated oils.

• Eating organic food helps to reduce your exposure to food-borne hormones and antibiotics from commercially produced meat, dairy, and eggs, and herbicides and pesticides in non-organic fruits and vegetables.

• Avoid drinking unfiltered tap water – metal pipes may leach heavy metals into tap water. The water system frequently contains many other toxins from farming run-off, sewage, air pollution, and other sources, including pesticides, heavy metals, antibiotics, pathogens, and other toxins. Stick with filtered water.

• Keep an eye on avoidable toxins! Reduce or eliminate your overall intake of toxins such as cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine, and recreational drugs. Remember – all of these chemicals must be detoxified by your liver and removed from your body.
