Autoimmune diseases are serious and need further attention. In my practice, I have seen many people who don’t pay enough attention to them or don’t even know that they have one. Autoimmune diseases list is quite long so it might be too time-consuming to get through so here is a list of some of them that I find very important to address.
Firstly, it is important to understand the basis of why there are so many types of autoimmune diseases. It largely has to do with the fact that it has to do with the immune system and it can have a various reaction within the body, e.g., what part of the body it damages. Infections are the other part that shows problems that the body cannot fix itself. It is important to understand that only treating autoimmune diseases symptoms won’t fix the main cause. This is where functional medicine comes in. Firstly, about autoimmune diseases themselves.

Rheumatoid arthritis
It occurs when the autoimmune disease attacks joints that lead to inflammation, pain, and swelling. If there is no treatment, the disease seriously damages joints and can make it very hard to walk or do any other daily things.
Lupus
This disease is not one of the rare autoimmune diseases anymore. It has become more common. Autoimmune antibodies start working against the body by damaging the tissues like blood cells, lungs, kidneys, and nerves. These are the most affected parts, but there are also others.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
In this case antibodies attack cells that produce insulin in pancreases. Autoimmune disease treatment by young adulthood is insulin injections. You can read more about insulin resistance here.
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
In case of this disease, the immune system goes after the thyroid gland. That means that it destroys thyroid hormone producing cells. That leads to hypothyroidism meaning a low level of this hormone. Autoimmune disease symptoms like weight gain, depression, dry skin, fatigue, constipation, and sensitivity to cold follow.
Graves’ disease
Antibodies are working on the thyroid gland by releasing excessive amounts of thyroid hormone. It leads to hyperthyroidism. This disease is visually very visible because a person has bulging eyes an unexplainable weight loss. Other symptoms are a weakness, brittle hair, irritability, nervousness.
Multiple sclerosis
In this case, the immune system sees nerve cells as something to attack. That causes weakness, muscle spasms, pain or even blindness.
Inflammatory bowel disease
The immune system attacks the intestine lining. This kind of invasion leads to abdominal pain rectal bleeding, urgent bowel movements, diarrhea, weight loss, and fever. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are two main types of the inflammatory bowel disease.

Autoimmune disease balance doesn’t include antibiotics or immune-suppressive medicine. From my experience, there might be a need to balance the immune system with Balance COQ-10 or other safety products. Each needs to be aware if something seems wrong and get the right treatment.
