This process might sound complicated for some people, but it is quite natural for energy production and anabolic processes.
It also influences other things in the body. Fatty acids impact is complicated, but it is essential to grasp at least a bit. New research shows detailed information about the fatty acid metabolism pathway.
The process’ name also is the absorption of fats. “Most of the fat in the human diet is in the form of triacylglycerol (TAG), which consists of three fatty acids linked to glycerol.”
WHAT ARE FATTY ACIDS?
They are “molecules that are long chains of lipid-carboxylic acid found in fats and oils and cell membranes as a component of phospholipids and glycolipids.”
In a study done in 2006, α-linolenic acid (free fatty acids) was given to rats to see absorption and fat metabolism process. This study focuses on octadecatrienoic acid (CLnA) (cis-9,trans-11,cis-15 and cis-9,trans-13,cis-15) that are not that widely studied as others. Scientists in their research used rats. They got injection of “fed rumenic acid (RA: cis-9,trans-11 18:2) and a CLnA mixture (cis-9,trans-11,cis-15 18:3 and cis-9,trans-13,cis-15 18:3) as FFA and TAG for 8 days.” As a result, RA and CLnA get fully absorbed. There were no changes in the diet. Also, the weight did not make a significant difference.
However, the results showed that there was a difference between the absorption of saturated fatty acids that were lower in comparison to monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Additionally, “The rats fed the TAG form had significant differences (P < 0.05) of saturated fatty acids profile of plasma PL. The animals fed CLnA as FFA had a lower content of arachidonic acid in liver and plasma PL.” In conclusion, ingestion of these fatty acids needs additional attention, because they can interfere with lipid metabolism.
WHAT IS FATTY ACID OXIDATION?
It is worth to understand two carbon bits are progressively cleaving to break them down by looking closer about the whole fatty acid oxidation process. Then they are converted to acetyl coenzyme A. Furthermore, “The acetyl CoA gets oxidation by the same citric acid cycle involved in the metabolism of glucose.”As a result of the whole process, fat is a place for storing energy. The process depends on oxygen. This aspect is essential for workouts because it also means that it won’t be possible to “burn fat, but only deprive the body of glucose. In this case, the fatty acid oxidation pathway switches to anaerobic metabolism. But you cannot stay in this state for long because there won’t be enough energy.
