Improvement of Glucose Metabolism with Amino Acids

Previously we looked at the absorption and metabolism of free fatty acids, but this time we address amino acids and their influence on glucose metabolism.

Already for some time amino acids are said to help as regulators of different regulatory processes and provide therapeutic applications of prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders. Also, impaired glucose metabolism is frequent in numerous health problems like hepatic cirrhosis.

One of the studies shows that branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) promote glucose intake in case of insulin-free conditions in rats.[1]

A study from 2011 also examines the “treatment of L- tryptophan (L- Trp) on the regulation of blood pressure and glucose metabolism in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSP).”[2] The treatment took three weeks.

The main conclusion in this research is that L – Trp with continuous treatment significantly improves glucose metabolism and blood pressure.
