As a Board-Certified Functional Nutritionist, Chen is passionate about providing nutritional support to help clients live healthy lives. At her practice in Silicon Valley, she has clients coming from states such as Ohio, Colorado, and Arizona and other countries including India and Israel. In addition to her certification, she also possesses a master’s in psychology.
A Personal Struggle Led to a Career in Nutrition
One of Chen’s greatest trials was when her husband lost his kidneys. At the hospital, the dietician said things like, “This is the least of what you should eat and what you should not eat”. There was later a moment in Chen’s life that impacted her strongly. She realized how food could make us healthy or sick to the point that you are dependent entirely on medications and the medical world.
Chen decided then to make nutrition a profession. Now, 14 years after her husband’s transplant, he is not only feeling better thanks to the right foods and supplementation but is doing much better compared to others.
What Sets Her Apart
In addition to her clinical knowledge, Chen brings to the table what she calls her kitchen lab. “There are a lot of great recipes out there, but we need to create those ingredients to create biochemistry responses. So I will come up with about ten different recipes that everyone can do in their kitchen.”
The Difference That Nutrition Can Make
Nutrition is a solution that everyone can apply to their life. Chen has had many clients who have gone to many doctors and spent thousands of dollars, and nothing happened to them. Through the nutritional support that she’s offered, they’ve been able to experience a myriad of health benefits. These include weight loss, improved sleep, a reduction in medication, and more.
How to Get Started with a Nutritional Assessment
After providing Chen with a set of questionnaires that you will need to complete and a blood test, you will get an additional comprehensive nutritional report, which is a document that’s about 15 to 30 pages. From that, you can understand what’s going on with your body and how your goals can be achieved by taking the right steps.
Sometimes Chen will need to run additional tests that are considered to be functional, nutritional tests such as Food Sensitivity, Stool Analysis, Zunulin, Organic Acids, Hair Analysis, Telomere tests, and not traditional tests like the regular CBC. She may perform a food allergy test, as well, which sometimes can include gut microbiome mapping. Chen also may conduct an excellent report of your genetic test like 23andMe, which will support your health for a more extended period of time Chen will take a look at the assessment and test results, and then she will create a customized nutrition plan to provide you with the proper nourishment you need to live a healthier life.
