FOODS THAT TRIGGER INFLAMMATION AND WEIGHT

It’s important to understand that some foods can cause inflammation and weight gain in a variety of cases.

As a Board-certified nutrition specialist, in my personal experience, I have witnessed many women who come to my office and complain about a sudden weight gain. One case was a woman who was telling that she wasn’t eating after 8 p.m., cutting on calories and going to a gym. She was still consuming foods that were high in sugar and other unhealthy substances. The problem is that many of them don’t even think that they are as harmful as they taste well or some other people that they know don’t have any problems with them.

Inflammation is the body’s reaction to protect the body, but in the end, it does the body harm as it destroys even the healthy tissues. The immune system is triggered by fat cells, etc. and thus thinks that it has to deal with the invasion. Many inflammatory foods can find a way into one’s daily consumption. There are examples of some foods that cause inflammation and also weight gain.

SUGAR – A HUGE TRIGGER FOR INFLAMMATION AND WEIGHT

Sugar is undoubtedly the most common substance that is in various products. The problem is that these products seem not only very tasty to many people but also easy to consume – candies, snack bars, coffee drinks, and numerous others. Journal of Endocrinology states that when consuming too much sugar, “the excess glucose our body can’t process quickly enough can increase levels of pro-inflammatory messengers called cytokines.” Sugar also weakens the immune system making it easier for diseases. And not to forget about excess fat – it is there.

VEGETABLE OILS – “HIDDEN” TRIGGERS OF INFLAMMATION AND WEIGHT

This kind of oil might seem healthy for people. They even use it for salad dressings. It has a lot of inflammatory fat, Omega-6. It is surprising how many foods have vegetable oil, as many foods are fried in these oils. Also, soy, sunflower, corn, palm and other oils are not much better.

PROCESSED MEATS – NOT GOOD FOR INFLAMMATION AND WEIGHT

Not all meat is healthy. Processed meats have a lot of saturated fats and advanced glycation end products. Some might even have artificial flavorings.

DAIRY PRODUCTS – TRICKY TRIGGERS

Although some dairy products like yogurt are healthy, many can increase inflammation as they have saturated fats.

SATURATED FATS – KNOWN TRIGGERS

Many people like fast food but they have a lot of saturated fats. They trigger inflammation. These foods are burgers, chips, pizza and various others.
