It is true that statistically, breast cancer is more common in older women. However, it is worrying to see an increase in the number of younger women diagnosed with the disease. 1 in 8 women in the US will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Over 226,000 cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed in 2013 in the U.S. women and nearly 2,200 in US men. Seven percent (7%) of breast cancer women are under the age of 40. Unfortunately, the number is 1-195-cancer-cellsincreasing.

The latest evidence study posted at the Journal Adolescence Health (2012), shows that teen girls who are on a restricted calories diet, eating poor foods, eating high-fat foods.

It looks like our breast health is influenced really early in life when breast tissue is developing. In this early stage in life, our breast tissues are very sensitive and vulnerable, and nutrition plays a huge role. Even the American Institute of Cancer Research on their home page website states that; ”

38 percent of all breast cancer cases in the U.S. could be prevented with simple, everyday changes to what we eat and how much we move”. The research shows us that consumption of certain foods during the breast development process may change the physiology of the breast, thereby making it more or less susceptible to future cancer. So there is no doubt that with a simple nutritional attention we can support developing healthy breast tissue.

– Increase raw, steam or boiled vegetable intake.

Make it a habit, at least twice a week try to have dinner with your teenage kids and show them a good example.

– You want to increase the cancer-fighting glucosinolate sitting in cauliflowers, broccoli, kale, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts. Sprinkle on top of it, fresh lemon, and garlic and if you are brave – spray organic chopped fresh ginger. If you need to salt it, use Himalayan salt.

– Cut sugar; refine carbs and commercial foods, change to whole grain, dense, plant base, organic, and local vegetables and fruits.

– Try to cook more often for your family and, most of all, try to influence the quality of foods your children consume – after all, it does make a big difference, especially while our teen girls are developing their breast tissues.
